the 2019 KING and queen OF THE MOUNTAINS jersey CONTESTs

The fastest combined times over two individual segments crowns our 2019 King and Queen of the Mountains. This contest is exceptionally tough because the winner needs to be able to climb like a seasoned roadie, and descend like a bullet on technical single track.

The road segment gets underway at Devils Lake and concludes at Sunrise Lodge on the paved summit of Mount Bachelor. This segment begins at mile 47 of the 62 mile road course, and covers roughly 7 miles in distance. Grades vary with two short downhill sections, a wide open flat plain alongside the lake, and a roughly 1.5 mile, average 6% climb onto Sparks Grade.

The dirt segment begins at transition, in the event village, and concludes at the lowest point of the single-track course on Catch and Release, Trail. This segment starts on Tiddlywinks, before hitting a section of rock gardens and technical terrain and climbing into Kiwa Butte. The reward comes at Tylers Traverse - a bermed-out, swoop, roller-coaster of a descent that winds down the lower slopes of the mountain.
